soundcloud.com/augustine-leudar/owlscape-use-headphonesThis is a Binaural rendering of an octophonic composition and should be listened to on headphones. This soundscape starts with recordings of various owls taken in the Amazon before introducing other field recordings such as 3D space before plunging into the more enigmatic soundscapes hidden within the amazon rainforest. Spectograms of 3D audio recordings taken with multiple microphones in the Amazon reveal curious shapes in the ultrasonic realm. By pitching these sounds down, but preserving the relative spatial positions in which they were recorded, the audience is immersed in the hidden soundscape of the tropical biosphere which is usually far beyond the range of human hearing. Some of the strangest sounds are made by birds, especially owls. I’ve always wondered what kind of soundscape the dinosaurs might have created. As birds are the closest living relatives of Therapod dinosaurs, I like to imagine that the soundscape composed of their decelerated voices might resemble that of a Mesozoic swamp.
