Modern symphonies are meant to be listened to by musicians and artists with the intellectual capacity to hear every sound and dissect each layer. That's a huge part of the enjoyment of that style of music. If people can't understand it, they have 2 options: 1. Practice this by listening more and really coming to understand what is happening. 2. Don't listen. I teach theory on this in my presentation "Experimental: Growing Electronic....." Personally I love noise and very experimental music - but I think there is a definate case of "the emporers new clothes" going on in the contemporary classical and modenr art world. Some would say that a lot of contemporary classical music is a language that many people simply do not speak. Personally I remain skeptical. I have an experiment which may suck a lot of the nonsense away - I am biding my time. I will keep you poted.
