Hi,
Thought i would upload some music that I am held responsible for from the past 3 or so years.
ART OF KAOS
This duo consisted of myself and my good friend Gabriel Merryfield (now involved with www.myspace.com/theeverlastingpraise www.myspace.com/themockingbirds3 and www.myspace.com/gypsysoulexperience). It all started 3 and a bit years ago when I got a Roland D-10 for my 16th and Cubasis (i forget which version), I started making fairly crazy remixes of pretty much everything and anything, then made some stuff myself, Gabe joined a few months later and Art of Kaos was born.
Genre? Well we didnt really like that idea so never stuck to one. Keys? Time Signatures? Lyrics? Etc? None of the latter was really our style so what was born was branded as Alternative/Experimental/Jazz/Funk/Doom/Avant-Garde Brainfucking and that pretty much ticks all the boxes. In the year or so Art of Kaos was active we managed to write and create 6 songs, although we had plans for another 6 to be on the finished album, this was cut short by Gabe going to Edinburgh for a music course and myself going to Spain for a year out.
So the 'finished' album, titled A Gross Extortion of Noise was left as is, I have upladed the 6 tracks to your soundcloud group, and they can also be found here : soundcloud.com/artofkaos
The album is a concept album themed on the extortion and suffering caused by large capitalist media companies. I tell you this because I am fairly sure no one would ever know otherwise. Sorry for the harsh parts and possibly over-loud mastering, we were young. All sounds were recorded live, then edited and layered, apart from samples, which are clearly just sampled...
PLEIADES
Pleiades is the name under which I have released some amount of solo work, mostly done during my year out in Spain, while Art of Kaos was on indefinite hiatus and i had a need to cause some musical expression.
I finished an EP during my year in Spain, tentatively titled The Penis Club for no reason other than that the name seemed to cause some uncomfort among some people, so it stayed. My time in Spain was a difficult one, I went through a pretty bad depressive state, mainly brought on through missing my friends in the UK, and the resulting sounds reflect that mindset I was in, to me anyway. The tracks are more drone oriented than anything AoK did, and capture the soundscape of how my mind felt at that time.
There is some bad clipping in the sound files which may damage your ears/speakers, this was due largely to using a downright awful mike for recording, and partly due to gain issues. Again, I have uploaded the 4 tracks from the EP to your soundcloud group, and they can also be found here: soundcloud.com/pleiades_ben
I am currently working on forming a new band, perhaps with more than two people in it for a change, based on circuit-bent instruments, noise, acoustic instruments and vocals, coming together to form one hell of a soundscape. This new band is as yet un-named but I may start doing some solo stuff based on what this new band would be focused on, and release that under the name Pleiades.
Well, thats that for now, I hope you enjoy the music, some if not all of it at least, and look forward to any review or criticism or joy or cups of tea that may result.
