So just wondered, who's into noise music? I'm talking The New Blockaders, Merzbow, Incapacitants, The Haters etc. And anyone who is, what are your favourite artists/albums?

Im totally into noise . I listen to noise everyday almost but none of the bands you mentioned .. new blockaders are quite boring and more of a jazz band to me , Merzbow seem careless about his music incapatians are more into HNW ( static noise with none or very little dynamics ) , Haters are just not very intressting .. I like most often small and unknown artists in this genre ( contractor x , pkwst , .RR , soma , churner , sir Edgar , Wolf Vostell just to mention some of the 100s and 100s ) . I also like Keiji Haino and the Hafler Trio as 2 of the true masters in noise

I haven't gotten into it very much, as in, not sat down and listened to it properly. But I do really like what I've heard so far. I guess there are a lot of different noisynesses, but never heard any of these bands mentioned here before. Loving the Intersystems! Which brought up a question in my brain. Does anyone know when noise actually became acknowledged as a genre "officially" (or whatever) ? Would be interesting to know. Nobody really speaks about it (I mean, I'm sure they do..Just haven't really heard much about it). One of the few noise bands I've really gotten into over the years are Les Rallizes Dénudés. Yet another kind of noisy? More melodic then these other ones you've mentioned here. www.youtube.com/watch?v=uog1U_KemlkHope to get to hear more noisy stuff on here!

....... a question in my brain. Does anyone know when noise actually became acknowledged as a genre "officially" (or whatever) ? Would be interesting to know. Nobody really speaks about it (I mean, I'm sure they do..Just haven't really heard much about it). Hi Floydz, Arguably the begining of "noise music" was Luigi Russolo "Art of noise" manifesto in 1913. The industrial revolution bought a plethora of new spunds not previosuly found in nature and he wanted to use this to create a new kind of "noise" music: Russolo sees the futurist orchestra drawing its sounds from "six families of noise":[6] Roars, Thunderings, Explosions, Hissing roars, Bangs, Booms Whistling, Hissing, Puffing Whispers, Murmurs, Mumbling, Muttering, Gurgling Screeching, Creaking, Rustling, Buzzing,[7] Crackling, Scraping [7] Noises obtained by beating on metals, woods, skins, stones, pottery, etc. Voices of animals and people, Shouts, Screams, Shrieks, Wails, Hoots, Howls, Death rattles, Sobs Russolo asserts that these are the most basic and fundamental noises, and that all other noises are only associations and combinations of these. He built a family of instruments, the Intonarumori, to imitate these six kinds of noises. [8] Russolo includes a list of conclusions: Futurist composers should use their creativity and innovation to "enlarge and enrich the field of sound"[6] by approaching the "noise-sound." Futurist musicians should strive to replicate the infinite timbres in noises. Futurist musicians should free themselves from the traditional and seek to explore the diverse rhythms of noise. The complex tonalities of noise can be achieved by creating instruments that replicate that complexity. The creation of instruments that replicate noise should not be a difficult task, since the manipulation of pitch will be simple once the mechanical principles that create the noise have been recreated. Pitch can be manipulated through simple changes in speed or tension. The new orchestra will not evoke new and novel emotions by imitating the noises of life, but by finding new and unique combinations of timbres and rhythms in noise, to find a way to fully express the rhythm and sound that stretches beyond normal un-inebriated comprehension. The variety of noise is infinite, and as man creates new machines the number of noises he can differentiate between continues to grow. Therefore, he invites all talented musicians to pay attention to noises and their complexity, and once they discover the broadness of noise's palette of timbres, they will develop a passion for noise. He predicts that our "multiplied sensibility, having been conquered by futurist eyes, will finally have some futurist ears, and . . . every workshop will become an intoxicating orchestra of noise."[4] Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Art_of_NoisesThis was his "noise" orchestra machine :

Wow, thank you! What inspiring thoughts and visions, and so long ago too. I guess he'd have been pleased to see that the seeds he planted has grown into such wide spread creations of all kinds of Noise music, even, maybe, outside of the groups of noise he'd have thought was possible to us ? (since we have computers/synths to recreate and manipulate sounds, and create sounds we'd never thought was possible to create before). It must've been a total disaster to play this noise music to people used to the traditional kinds of music at the time. Kind of revolutionary, in a way. Maybe there is still sounds to be put into the music scene, that hasn't been there before, even in this time ?

I'd love to know more about this! I haven't dwelled into it too much, but sen it being discussed online, and it seems a huge bunch of possibilities. (3D audio, I mean). Would be spectacular to discover more in this area.

Definitely Merzbow I feel like started and invented the genre of Noise, but I would also say there are cross overs with Mlaudlin of the Well, some Hella and John Zorn

We aren't sure if it would fit but. It really sounds (heh sounds, human pun) that Lee Renaldo's album from here to Infinity would fit the bill of noise music. This reminds us that Sonic Youth did do a live album with Merzbow. SYR8: Andre Sider af Sonic Youth is the name of that album by Sonic Youth. BTW the Renaldo album is interesting if you get it in vinyl has a lock groove allows the listener to hear to the remaining few seconds of each musical piece for as long as they want. This is not possible with the cd version which is slightly different. Also sadly both versions are out of print but both have been posted in forms on youtube. Hopefully, that helps all humans interested.

Want to second The Residents as gods. We try to model ourselves with them even if as Japanese Demons we look up to the human gods known as The Residents. We try to live by the theory of obscurity. Which is why we will never reveal the identities of our human bodies. Also our producer is a big fan of John Cage. Since we are fans of Sonic Youth he introduced us to SYR4: Goodbye 20th Century and the musical piece on the album known as Six (3rd Take). Also if we are including Noise Rock let's give a hand to Big Black.

Yeah, I try and follow the obscurity thing - but sometimes it's really hard when your mates or wife or whatever are around and you putting a masl on or whatever... don't quite know how they do it. The rubber bandits in Ireland are really strict about keeping their identities secret. Like when they do a show backstage etc
